about .72 caliber flint, 39 1/2" smoothbore barrel with an about good bore. Barrel is an overall pleasing brown patina mixing with areas of pewter, breech area shows a turned medial and British proofs as well as a period "MS" stamping. Lock is undated and is tower marked with crown over "GR". Hammer, frizzen and attendant parts are a deep brown patina, lockplate is brown and pewter. The stock is a lovely red russet patina and shows the same "MS" marking as the barrel, there are proof or acceptance marks to the rear of the long tang trigger guard and an "R" marking on the stock flat behind the Massachusetts State marking. The stock rates very good plus to excellent overall with one minor crack at the front sling swivel and another minor drying crack at the front of the buttplate tang. The top of the buttplate tang is lightly inscribed "TH". The brass hardware overall has a lovely uncleaned ocher patina. The original ramrod is included. The cock and frizzen are crisp and operate flawlessly. This is an excellent Massachusetts State marked Brown Bess overall. (1958-105) {ANTIQUE} (3500/5000)
