54 Caliber, 33" barrel with a dark bore. This rifle has the Snell bayonet alteration (two perpendicular slots at the right side of the muzzle) making this one of 1,646 rifles so altered at Harpers Ferry in 1855. The barrel has an overall dark brown patina with some mild pitting around the nipple and bolster, and the lockplate has "HARPERS/FERRY/1850" behind the hammer. The right blade of the rear sight leaf has broken off. The stock has a thick coat of added oil over numerous small handling marks and blemishes, and has a small chip missing from the rear of the lockplate inletting, a shallow gouge just behind the barrel tang, a small plastic wood repair on the right side of the wrist, and a small repair to the wood at the patchbox finger tab. The brass furniture has a mild patina while the interior of the patchbox has a crisp "JLB" stamp in the wood. This is a very good Mississippi with a rare arsenal alteration. (1958-56) {ANTIQUE} (2,000/3,000) SOLD FOR $2300.00
