serial #1504, 36 caliber, 7 1/2" barrel. Metal surfaces of revolver are an even gray brown patina. There are some scattered areas of light pitting present. The cylinder scene is about 75% visible with a couple patches of light pitting. The brass grip straps retain a mellow patina. All edges and markings remain crisp and clear. The one piece walnut grips rate excellent. The accompanying factory letter confirms the configuration and shows shipment to The United States Government, Major G.D. Ramsay at the Washington Arsenal on September 12, 1861 in a 200 gun group. This is the more common version of the martial '61 Navy that is completely void of inspector's markings. There is a minor ring in the bore, a fairly common occurrence with these old blackpowder guns when the powder would become wet. A really fine and honest example of the rare U.S. martial 1861 Navy.
