serial #180281, 45 Colt, 5 1/2" barrel with an excellent bore. This revolver was shipped to Sgt. R.S. Elliott of the Santa Ana, CA. Police Department on June 9, 1926 and has matching numbers on the barrel and cylinder with 95% plus of the original blue with silvering along the raised edges and a light turn ring on the cylinder. After receipt, Sgt. Elliott regulated his revolver by nicely milling the front sight into a quasi-Patridge blade and shaving a little bit off the top of the rear sight notch leaving the exposed metal in-the-white. Additionally, there are two very small impact marks, one on the right side of the muzzle and one on the front edge of the front sight (hardly surprising for a duty weapon), and some fading and light handling marks along the bottom of the gripstraps. The hammer and checkered trigger retain nearly all of their original case colors. The checkered, diamond center grips are unnumbered on the interior and in very good overall condition with a single chip on the left side panel at the heel of the butt. A July 30, 2004 dated Smith & Wesson letter comes with the revolver and confirms the caliber, recipient, and shipping date. In addition to the letter, an N.R.A. Silver Certificate of Recognition, one of ten presented to important firearms displayed at the 2005 N.R.A. Annual Meeting in Houston, the silver N.R.A. award medallion in its blue velvet jewelry case, and a small plastic tabletop display sign are included. This is a very rare Smith & Wesson, in fine condition, which has a confirmed law enforcement connection and would make a sparkling addition to any collection of Hand Ejectors.
