serial #339890, 44 S&W, 7 1/2" barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is a very rare single action revolver, one of only 24 standard frame guns produced in this caliber. The barrel marking is “RUSSIAN AND / S&W SPECIAL 44”. The barrel and ejector rod housing retain 90% original blue finish with most loss being on outer edge of ejector rod housing. The cylinder retains about 80% original blue finish blending with a gray brown patina and showing some light scratches around the circumference. The frame retains about 90% original color case hardened finish, most of which has mellowed to a German silver color with subtle sprays of color visible throughout. The grip straps retain about 25% original blue with the balance bearing a smooth gray patina. The checkered hard rubber grips rate very good with brass screw insert being replaced left side. Revolver comes with factory letter confirming its configuration and showing a single gun shipment on October 1, 1920 to Edwards & Walker Company in Portland, Maine.
