serial #3163, .450 BPE, 29 3/8" round barrel with a very good bore. This fine quality rifle is built on the Henry's patent falling block action and features a left-hand lock with rear sliding safety. The action and lock feature beautiful tight English scroll engraving in about 75% coverage. The lock is engraved "JOHN DICKSON / & SON" and the right side of action is engraved "HENRY'S PATENT / No. 617". The barrel is engraved with Dickson's "63 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH" address. The barrel retains an even brown patina with even pitting overall which is mostly light in nature however, it does obscure the barrel address to a degree. The breech section of barrel shows some bite marks from a vise or other tool used in an attempt to remove the barrel. This is unfortunate as the balance of the rifle is in nice honest condition. The action and lock retain a pleasing brown patina, are generally smooth and free of pitting and show strong colors in protected area ahead of triggerguard and under lever. The checkered pistol grip buttstock and forend are of English walnut and rate very good to excellent with strong checkering and 90% excellent quality old restored oil finish. The checkered iron shotgun buttplate has a compartment, however door is broken and missing and the buttplate is a little proud of the wood. The forend is key fastened and has a lovely relief carved shell motif at tip and is a little under size at action. Rifle features a low-profile beaded blade front sight with a single standing and two folding leaf rear sight. This rifle is an excellent candidate for restoration.
