serial #855 & 866 all matching including wedges, 36 caliber, 7 1/2" round barrels. The backstraps of each revolver are period engraved "Lt. Col. E. Maynard 6th E. Tenn. Vols". Edward Maynard enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant on an unknown date, was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on March 15, 1862 and was commissioned into the staff of the 6th Tennessee Infantry on April 23, 1862. His regiment saw service in Georgia and Tennessee and participated in a portion of Sherman's March. The regiment was present and active in the taking of Atlanta. Maynard mustered out on May 1, 1865. After surviving his action in the Civil War Maynard later died in 1869 of yellow fever. Iron surfaces of revolvers retain an even gray patina with some scattered light areas of surface oxidation and some very fine pitting. The cylinder scenes are about 20% visible. The brass gripstraps retain a pleasing, untouched patina. The buttstrap of revolver number 855 shows the name "Maynard" lightly scratched. The one-piece walnut grips rate very good. These revolvers come with a set of black leather saddle holsters which are now separated and rate good plus. A catalog description from Robert S. Brunk Auctions, where these revolvers were sold in 2001, states that they descended through the Maynard family and were consigned by the great great grandson of Edward Maynard. Included with the revolvers is a file folder with numerous photocopies of muster sheets. A really nice set of completely honest, identified Civil War Colt revolvers.
