This is an opened, two-piece cardboard box with a light green label having a line drawing of a Colt Model 1878 and marked, "50/Metallic Cartridges/.45 Cal. Central Fire/For/Colt's Double and Single Action Army Revolvers/MANUFACTURED BY THE/DOMINION CARTRIDGE CO., LIMITED,/MONTREAL, CANADA, N.A." and the Dominion Beaver trademark. The label is 95% complete with some very minor tears along the edges and spots of discoloration in the central portion. The lid has some old paper tape repairs along the corners and a partial separation along one edge. The box is full with 50 "D.C. Co." headstamped cartridges, three with single cannelures, the remainder with double cannelures and has remnants of the printed paper seal on the mouth of the lid. These cartridges were manufactured after Canada had adopted the Model 1878 Colt for their militia and found they required a cartridge with a more sensitive primer. These are rare boxes in any condition and this one rates very good plus overall. (1996-29) SOLD FOR $805.00
