serial #437317, 22 WRF, 24" octagon barrel with a good plus bore that shows some scattered light corrosion. This is an extremely handsome 1890 rifle. The action features full coverage scroll engraving with beautiful large panel scenes showing two squirrels on branch left side and three rabbits on the edge of a pasture right side. The top and bottom surfaces of the action, breech block and tangs feature lovely scroll and several beautiful relief shell motifs which are seen in some of the Ulrich's work. The barrel shows a lovely treatment for its first two inches including floral border work and scroll; heavier coverage than we have seen on any previously illustrated factory engraved 1890 rifle. It is our opinion that the rifle was factory refinished prior to the 1950s. The color of the finish is lovely, the finish is old and showing some mixing with a mellow brown patina but there are some areas of some very light pitting which appears to be beneath the finish. Metal surfaces of rifle retain 80% of that evenly thinning blue finish which is blending nicely with a plum brown patina. The checkered pistol grip buttstock and grooved forend are of highly figured walnut and rate very good plus to excellent with some added finish. This rifle was consigned to us by the widow of Mr. Bruce Geiger who was a dear friend and long-time customer of ours. Mr. Geiger purchased this rifle in the early 50s and when he and Mrs. Geiger met in 1957 they used to shoot it together. It was Bruce's pride and joy, his most prized tangible possession. We lost Bruce late last year and the time has come for someone else to enjoy and care for this lovely rifle. (2061-1) {C&R} (10,000/20,000) SOLD FOR $12650.00
