serial #33418, 450 BPE, 27 7/8" barrels with excellent, bright bores having faint traces of frosting at the chamber mouths. This is a lovely rifle which features simple, well executed floral border engraving, sling eyes, and a two leaf rear sight graduated at 100 and 200 yards mounted on a matted rib with a metal bead front sight. The barrels have the 277 Oxford St. address (indicating pre-1903 manufacture) and retain 95% plus maker quality blue thinning slightly to a mild plum color. The frame, hammers, and lockplates have an overall smooth, mottled gray patina with traces of original case colors remaining on the left plate and stronger case colors on protected areas of the lever and triggerguard. A full complement of London blackpowder proofs are present on the barrel flats and there are final view proofs on the watertable. The checkered splinter forend and pistol grip buttstock have an excellent oil finish with sharp points and a few, very minor handling marks on the buttstock. The mechanism is tight and fully functional. The length of pull measures 14 1/2" to the original metal buttplate with drops of 1 1/2" at the comb, 2 1/2" at the heel. This is a wonderful little rifle, gracefully configured, and rates fine condition overall. (2027-127) {C&R} [Stan Terhune Collection] (7000/9000) SOLD FOR $6037.50
