serial #15851, 450 BPE, 26" barrels with excellent, bright bores. This rifle dates from ca. 1885 and features simple, straight line border engraving, forward sling swivel with rear sling stud, and a three leaf rear sight graduated to 100, 200, and 300 yards mounted on a matted sunken rib with an ivory bead front sight. The metal retains 95% plus of an added overall blue finish which has faded to mild gray along the lockplates. The requisite London proofs are present on the barrel flats with final view proofs on the watertable. The markings are still crisp with good definition, and the metal exhibits a few small peen marks on the right tube at the rear sight. The checkered, splinter forend and pistol grip buttstock without cheekpiece have a pleasingly dark, added oil finish and still sharp points. There are some very small chips missing from the edges of the forend and a stable, straight line crack through both sides of the pistol grip at the bottom of the tang. The length of pull measures 14" to a cracked and hardened White Line recoil pad with drops of 1 1/4" at the comb, 2 1/8" at the heel. This is a handsome, still tight and fully functional Rigby double rifle in one of the most popular of the black powder express calibers. (2027-128) {ANTIQUE} [Stan Terhune Collection] (5000/7000)
