serial #340571, 38 special, 6" barrel with an as-new bore. If ever there was a shooting master that could be described as new-in-box this is the example. The gun exhibits virtually no discernible wear. The hammer whites are brilliant, checkering on trigger and the front and back straps is sharp and retains all its original blue. The checkered walnut grips with silver Rampant Colt medallions rate as-new. The face of the recoil shield is immaculate, and the barrel's forcing cone is in-the-white and looks as though it were cut yesterday. Indeed the firing pin bushing shows only the original factory file mark (one pass) from the day it was fitted. The gun locks up as tight as the day it left Hartford. The gun rides in an original purple-toned pebbled paper covered hinge-topped box with "Colt Shooting Master" imprinted inside the lid. Inside is an original blued steel screwdriver, "shooting suggestions" pamphlet, "special instructions" pamphlet and original target numbered to the gun. The inside lid is marked in pencil with the gun's serial number and caliber. The box rates excellent with only very minor wear on the sharp corners. The lid is not embossed. The action is somewhat sluggish due to hardened oil. An investment-grade round butt shooting master that is as new as a vintage Colt revolver gets. One wonders how a revolver manufactured in 1936 remains as new. (1996- 6) {C&R} (5000/7000)
