serial #7760, 50-95 Express, 26" round barrel with full magazine and a very good bore. The 50-95 Express caliber was introduced in 1879, this rifle was received in the warehouse on May 10, 1879 making it one of the first express 1876 rifles built. The condition of the rifle is lovely. The barrel and magazine retain about 80% evenly thinning original blue finish which is blending with a pleasing smooth brown patina. The action and sideplates retain 90% plus original blue finish which is also thinning evenly and beginning to blend with a smooth brown. Case color on hammer is quite strong, lever colors remain visible but are slightly more subdued. Fire blue on loading gate remains strong and the base of the follower which is engraved "50-95" retains a lovely uncleaned patina. The plain walnut stocks rate excellent and look like they may have had a little light oil finish added. The standard rifle buttplate retains a good deal of faded original case color and buttstock contains a correct four piece iron cleaning rod. The rifle is equipped with standard open sporting sights in addition to a lovely folding tang peep sight. The rifle is accompanied by a factory later confirming the configuration and showing a ship date of May 12, 1879. A very fine and a very early 1876 Express rifle.
