serial number 9730, .33-40, 28 15/16" octagon barrel with a very good bore that shows a little light corrosion. The barrel bears Pope's number "202" and an additional number near breech "1840". The barrel began life as a Stevens-Pope barrel and was later returned to Pope after he left Stevens for apparent re-rifling as the Stevens Pope marks are matted over and an additional "H. M. Pope" mark is added ahead of these. Bottom of the barrel is marked "202 / 25 / 1.44 / 8/4/10 / H.M. POPE". The barrel retains 75% thinning blue. The action was cleaned long ago and is now a grayish brown patina with a small amount of surface corrosion evident and with markings only partially legible. The rifle is equipped with a Stevens full-length telescopic sight on Malcolm style adjustable mounts and original double set triggers. The plain walnut buttstock rates about very good as refinished with two cracks at frame. The custom walnut forend rates very good plus. Top rear of action is drilled and tapped for tang sight which is no longer present. Rifle comes with its original false muzzle which is numbered to the barrel along with an aluminum piston bullet starter, Pope double cut off mold, Stevens Pope re-de-capper and loading rod. An interesting old Ballard Pope. (1915-46B) {ANTIQUE} [Ray Day Collection] (4000/6000) SOLD FOR $5175.00
