serial #5355, .44 2.6", 33 7/16" round barrel with 1 1/4" octagonal section at breech and with an excellent bright bore. This is an interesting rifle which Mr. Day purchased from Mr. Gerald Kelver. The barrel bears proper Remington address on top but has no caliber designation and no markings beneath forend. The barrel is equipped with a windgauge front sight, there is an additional dovetail in octagonal section at breech which is filled with a brass blank and there are two holes drilled and tapped just ahead of action which now have filler screws. The barrel retains a brown patina overall with some scattered light surface oxidation present. The action retains about 50% original case color which has faded to a German silver color and is blending with a smooth gray patina where finish is missing. The checkered pistol grip walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent having been nicely refinished. The rifle is equipped with a midrange vernier tang peep sight and has a heel position base. Rifle is also equipped with an interesting single set adjustable trigger. Included with the rifle is Mr. Day's pocket notebook with his loading data and stating that he purchased the rifle from Gerald Kelver on February 12, 1995. Also included are cartridge cases and a target shot by Mr. Day. (1915-18) {ANTIQUE} [Ray Day Collection] (3000/5000)
