Custom Thacker Ballard No. 6 1/2 Schuetzen Rifle

serial #14765, 28-30, 32" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel of this rifle is completely unmarked and has seven groove left-hand rifling. Rifle features double set triggers and custom Schuetzen lever. This rifle was customized by early California gunsmith F. L. Thacker of Los Angeles. The rifle features custom Schuetzen style buttstock with Thacker marked Schuetzen buttplate along with a long walnut forend typical of California guns, which is fitted with a Thacker marked palm rest. The action is factory engraved with bugling elk in panel left and walking bear in panel right. The barrel retains 85% evenly thinning original blue finish which is blending with a pleasing smooth brown patina. The action shows light cleaning and retains 95% of an old restored blue finish. The pistol grip buttstock and forend are of very nicely figured walnut and rate excellent with 90% original finish remaining and with most loss on belly of forend ahead of palm rest. Rifle is equipped with a windgauge front sight with spirit level, no rear seat and a midrange vernier tang peep sight. Rifle comes with a shooting kit which includes a Pope mold and lubricating pump, breech seating tools, cases, bullets and Ray Day's shooting notes. A neat California custom Ballard Schuetzen rifle.
